Mr. Robert Soo,
MAES
Product Manager, Lectret Precision
(Singapore) Pte Ltd
In installed sound design, often
the question arises as to which three components would be considered to be
the most important that would contribute towards a good sound system. My
personal opinion would be : Acoustics, Loudspeakers and Microphones. Indeed
if these three components are properly taken into consideration, it would be
an easy task for the audio engineer to achieve his desired results. There is
much to learn from each of these areas, moreover, new discoveries and
technologies are frequently introduced. AES Singapore had the wonderful
opportunity to organise a seminar on Loudspeaker Technologies 2 years ago at
the last PALA ’99 event. This year we’re please to organise a seminar on
Microphone Technologies, where we’ll get to better understand the current
workings and also to have a sneak preview into the near future to see what
exciting new technologies await us.
One distinct area that has made a
tremendous impact in the world of audio-visual entertainment is in the area
of surround sound technology. Truly, it has changed the way we’ve perceived
and defined entertainment in the past, and with the present advancement, it
has escalated both audio and video entertainment to great new heights. In
session I, the seminar takes a look at surround sound technology as used in
Hollywood movies as well as in surround sound systems.
We’re glad and honoured to have
invited several experts in these fields, each having extensive experience in
their areas of profession. Once again, I’ll like to extend my sincere thanks
to our main sponsor IIR Exhibitions Pte. Ltd. and AES Inc. in New York for
their generous support and sponsorship.. To my fellow Section officers and
to all who have contributed in one way or another in making this event
possible.
See you at PALA 2001.
Robert Soo
