For
a change of pace, the AES Singapore Section organized a dinner function
on
a balmy Saturday evening at the house of Chairman Arthur Ngiam. The
thinking was two-fold: so many of the members of the society seldom
see each other, and certainly not in a social setting. The AGMs always
require a lot of official business to be conducted, so this was organized
to provide a relaxed atmosphere for AES members to mingle, to make
new contacts and renew old friendships.
As it turned out,
a good friend of the section was in town. The Immediate Past President
of the AES, Professor Kees A. Schouhamer
Immink was in Singapore as part of his duties with NUS and attended
the dinner with his wife. The 23 AES members and their partner /
families (including 4 past and present AES Singapore Section chairmen)
enjoyed a seemingly endless buffet of expertly cooked BBQ items, salads,
deserts
and more,
all
capped
off
with glasses
of
Singapore
Sling, made to the same recipe of the Raffles Hotel that brought the
drink to international fame.
The section is grateful
to Chairman Arthur Ngiam for his generous sponsorship of the food
and drink and opening his house for this function, and to his son-in-law
who selflessly manned the BBQ grill and cooked non-stop for close to
3
hours!
