6th AGM Report reported by: Christopher K. C. Yap Secretary (Term 1999/2000) It was yet another resplendent and grand gathering of the audio industry of Singapore on Friday, 23 June 2000. At 7.00 pm, 27 members and 45 guests of the AES Singapore Section attended the 6th Annual General Meeting cum Buffet Dinner of the AES Singapore Section at the Le Meridien Hotel. Attendance was taken and both members and guests were pleasantly surprised when they were each given a badge and a bag of door gifts. Thanks to the wives of the Section’s committee members who volunteered in the distribution of the above. Mr Benedict Chng, the Master-of-Ceremonies for the night, kicked off the evening with words of welcome, and the highlight of the evening began– Dinner! The buffet spread was ever more sumptuous, and the chatty atmosphere among the dinner tables suggested an enjoyable reunion of sorts – or was it the spices that set the tongues on fire. After spending some time digging into the intercontinental cuisine, the Secretary of the AES Singapore Section, Mr Christopher Yap, came forward and gave a brief on the AES, its worldwide structure, as well as membership application details for the benefit of the attentive guests. There was no doubt that even members learnt a little more about the AES with that illustrated and enlightening talk. This was followed by the Keynote Address from the AES Vice-President, International Region, Dr Rhonda Wilson. She was happy to note that the Section was active and well organised. Further she was pleased with the feedback and the frequent activity reports that has helped her keep abreast with the section’s development. Dr Wilson announced that she will visit the Singapore Section on her last leg of her journey to the Far East in July 2000. One could hear an increased murmur of excitement when this was announced. The Chairman of the Singapore Section, Mr Jibby Jacob, then presented the opening address and the Chairman’s report for the Term 1999/2000. He told the audience that the membership of the AES Singapore Section has grown to a total of 71. AES SINGAPORE SECTION MEMBERSHIP STRENGTH

The Chairman reported that the bi-monthly issue of the local Section Newsletter was sent to all members, and potential members, thanks to the efforts of the honorary editor Mr Lim Ban Thian. He reported that each of the 11 activities that were organised in the previous Term were well attended. Averaging about one every month, the events consisted of Talks, Demonstrations, Lectures, Tours and Seminars, which attracted different people each time from the various audio fields. One event worthy of highlight was the talk by Mr Nick Tay on the "DVD Production Process", which brought the section one step forward by breaking the highest attendance record, with a total of 92 attendees. Chairman also admitted that without the support of his fellow committee members all these would not have been possible and thanked them sincerely for their cooperation and support. Mr Robert Soo, the Section Treasurer, then presented the Section audited statement of accounts for the term 1999/2000. Without boring the invitees with facts and figures, Robert reiterated that money was spent cautiously and every effort was taken to avoid frivolous spending.
