On Friday, 25 June 1999 at 7.00 pm, 24 members and 21 guests of the AES Singapore Section gathered at Amara Hotel for the section’s 5th Annual General Meeting cum Annual Dinner.

Singapore’s very own veteran radio personality Mr Norman Lim was the Master of Ceremonies for the night. Lim kicked off the night with his familiar welcome voice. Following that was the membership talk by the section secretary, Mr Christopher Yap, who provided informative insights of the society’s origin & structure along with the  membership subscription & privileges.

In the Chairman’s Report for the Term 1998/1999, Mr Jibby Jacob, the outgoing Chairman outlined the past activities and membership of the Singapore Section. Jacob noted that membership strength has quadrupled since 1994 when the section first started with only 20 members.

To date, the Singapore section has grown to a total membership of 70 members, of which 62 are members/associates, 5 are student members, 2 are sustaining members, and last but not least, we are honoured to have in Singapore a Life Charter Associate Member. This is an increase of 5 from the previous term with a membership strength of 64 members.

On publications, Jacob reported that 6 bi-monthly newsletter issues were distributed  in the last term to the members, and gave due recognition to the efforts of its editor, Mr Lim Ban Thian.

The Singapore Section Web Site was launched in May 1997 and hosted by Media Village, has now 76 HTML pages including 30 Section Reports, utilising 6MB of storage space, and garners about 40 hits per month. Thanks to Mr Gerd Meier who maintains the web site.

Going on to highlight each activity, Jacob gave special mention to the talk by Mr Robert Soo, “Challenges in Church Sound Design”, which boasts a record breaking attendance of 10 members and 47 guests, the highest total attendance to date. Acknowledging the Section Officers for the Term 1998/1999, Jacob extended a sincere appreciation and warm gratitude to his fellow committee members for a fruitful and memorable term.
